Al-Meleihi, chairman of the Saudi-Singapore Business Council (SSBC) told Arab News that "Singapore is an attractive area for Saudi investors. It’s also rising as the largest center for asset management, whose size is estimated to be $1.29 trillion this year,” The SSBC comprises 18 Saudi investors and 12 Singaporean counterparts.

He added that joint ventures with special facilities could be set up both in Saudi Arabia and Singapore with the support of the SSBC under the agreement. 

“The prospects are indeed bright not only for Saudi investors but also for their Singaporeans well,” adding that both countries have strong economies.

The European Commission published its analysis of the almost 150,000 replies to its online consultation on investment protection and investor-to-state dispute settlement (ISDS) in the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).

One of the important key questions in the consultation was whether the EU’s proposed approach for TTIP would achieve the right balance between protecting investors and safeguarding the EU’s right and ability to regulate in the public interest.

In the first quarter of 2015, the Commission will organise a number of consultation meetings with EU governments to discuss investment protection and ISDS in TTIP on the basis of this report.

As a first step, the consultation results will be presented to the INTA Committee of the European Parliament on 22 January.

Edward Scicluna, Malta's Finance Minister said that the country should seek to attract a Chinese financial institution since financial services in China were now operating on a global level playing field. Mr Scicluna made the comment during the annual General Meeting of the Maltese Chinese Chamber of Commerce, held on Friday October 18, 2013, according to a government press release.

Malta is seeking to broaden its financial sector, and is constantly on the lookout for new opportunities to increase the breadth and depth of its financial services infrastructure, not least its securities markets," Scicluna said.

The Chinese government has donated $230 million to Jamaica for the construction of a Chinese Garden within the Hope Royal Botanic Gardens, Kingston.

Jamaica's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Planning, Dr Peter Phillips signed the Construction Agreement on behalf of the Government of Jamaica with Hongbao Li, board chairman/general manager of the Chinese construction contractor China Zhengjiang International Economic Cooperation Corp Limited.

The construction and implementation of the project will be done through the Nature Preservation Foundation, which is responsible for the management of Hope Gardens.
