USA – EAC towards a free-trade agreement
The East African Community trading bloc (the African bloc that is working in the best way in Africa)—Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda—has been a strategic partner with the U.S. in a bilateral trade initiative since 2013.
Trade in goods among the five bloc countries and the U.S. totaled $2.8 billion in 2014
Exports from EAC to the U.S. have primarily consisted of apparel $743 million in 2014
the top U.S. exports to the EAC include aircraft and heavy machinery ($2 billion).
The current U.S. trade framework with 40 African countries tariff-free access to the U.S. market, is set to expire, so US is moving beyond this current framework.

In 2012, eight of the twenty fastest growing economies in the world were in sub-Saharan Africa
The African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) is a trade preference program enacted since 2000 for the U.S.-African engagement on trade and investment.
39 sub-Saharan African countries currently qualify for AGOA benefits.
USAID funding is supporting the work of three African Regional Trade Hubs located in Accra, Ghana; Gaborone, Botswana; and Nairobi, Kenya.
Currently AGOA to gain full advantage of the opportunity for mutually beneficial trade and investment is working to encourage regional integration, expand the number of products granted duty-free access, eliminate quota restrictions, and require gradually reciprocal duty-free treatment for American exports

非洲与美国概况
美国与东非共同体欲达成自由贸易协定。
东非共同体贸易集团（非洲国家组成的集团，是目前非洲与其他大陆开展贸易的最好方式）——布隆迪、肯尼亚、卢旺达、坦桑尼亚和乌干达自2013以来与美国已经建立了双边贸易战略合作伙伴关系。
2014年集团内这五大成员国和美国之间的货物贸易总额达28亿美元。
2014年从东非共同体国家出口到美国的货物主要包括服装价值达7.43亿美元。
美国出口到东非共同体的产品中最多的是飞机和重型机械（价值20亿美元）。
目前美国与允许40个非洲国家免关税准入美国市场的贸易框架即将过期，因此美国也正在不断推动建立新的框架。
非洲出口商说，我们的目标是达成与美国的自由贸易协定，消除非洲和美国之间的贸易壁垒。
美国-非洲自由贸易协定
2012年，全球经济增长最快的20个国家之中有8个是撒哈拉以南非洲的国家。
《非洲增长与机会法案》（AGOA），是自2000年颁布的关于美国和非洲贸易与投资优惠计划法案。
39个撒哈拉以南非洲国家目前正在享受AGOA所带来的益处。
美国国际开发署也在投入资金支持是位于在加纳首都阿克拉、博茨瓦纳首都哈博罗内以及肯尼亚首都内罗毕这三个非洲区域贸易枢纽的工作。
目前，AGOA充分利用获得的机会，开展互惠互利的贸易和投资合作，鼓励区域一体化，扩大授予免税准入产品的数量，消除配额限制，并逐步要求对美国出口互惠免税待遇。
AGOA正在不断自我升级，从一个权力有限的贸易安排升级为自由贸易和投资的合作伙伴关系，最终将巩固美国与非洲的关系。
